Sound Exposure During Outdoor Music Festivals. Most countries have guidelines to regulate sound exposure at concerts and music festivals. In Norway, where there is such a guideline, it is up to the local authorities to impose the regulations.

The need to prevent hearing-loss among festival participants is self-explanatory, but knowledge of the actual dose received by visitors is extremely scarce. This study looks at two Norwegian music festivals where only one was regulated by the Norwegian guideline for concert and music festivals.

At each festival the sound exposure of four participants was monitored with noise dose meters. This study compared the exposures experienced at the two festivals , and tested them against the Norwegian guideline and the World Health Organization's recommendations.

Given that the political goal of achieving a physical activity legacy had already been set, the policy-led aim of this systematic review was to examine the processes by which the London Olympic and Paralympic Games might deliver a physical activity as opposed to sport legacy.

Searches were conducted on five databases: SPORTS DISCUS, CINAHL, PsychLNFO, MEDLINE and Web of Knowledge. There are two key findings: first, that communities that are not positively engaged with hosting the Games in London are likely to be beyond the reach of any initiatives seeking to harness the Games to develop legacies in any area; second, major events such as London can, if promoted in the right way, generate a ' festival effect' that may have the potential to be harnessed to promote physical activity among the least active.

The ' festival effect' derives from the promotion of the Games as a national festival that is bigger than and beyond sport, but that is also rooted in the lives of local and cultural communities, thus creating a strong desire to participate in some way in an event that is both nationally significant and locally or culturally relevant.

Physical activity policy makers and professionals should seek to satisfy this desire to participate through providing physical activity rather than sport opportunities presented as fun community events or programmes. For this work were performed 50 grafts for each type of rootstock, totaling slips and 50 seedlings kept as control. After 15 days of grafting, the seedlings were evaluated on the percentage of picks grafting.

The treatment which used the tomato cultivar Cherry Red® as rootstock presented results of vegetative growth height and volume Cup higher than other treatments.

However after transplanting, defective development was observed for plants with grafting when compared to the controls. According to the results obtained in this work the tomato cultivar Santa Cruz Kada ® has good compatibility with the rootstock cultivar Cayenne® pepper and tomato cultivar Cherry Red®.

Research on waste prevention and management at green festivals is scarce. Waste characterization campaigns and a questionnaire survey were conducted during the festival.

The results show that the largest amount of waste generated was residual waste, followed by food and kitchen waste and packaging waste. The amount of waste generated per person per day at the festival was lower than that of other festivals for both the entire venue and the canteen.

Concerning food and kitchen waste generated at the canteen, the amounts are in accordance with the findings of previous studies, but the amount of the edible fraction is comparatively low.

Source separation rates are high, in line with other festivals that engage in food-waste source separation. Factors affecting the participation of attendees in waste prevention measures at the festival are the type of participant, their region of origin, the frequency of visits, and whether they are attending as a family.

Efforts must be made to increase the awareness of attendees about waste prevention measures, to develop guidelines and methods to quantify the waste prevention measures, and to formulate policies aimed at increasing the application of the zero-waste principle at festivals.

Full Text Available The sustainable development of the festival depends on the support and participation of residents and tourists. There are a number of practical and theoretical gaps regarding the hosts and guests in festival literature.

This study attempts to fill the host—guest gap based on the theory of reasoned action to construct and exam a relationship model. Taking the Summer Festival during busy season as an example in Hualien, questionnaires were valid, and data were analyzed by SEM structural equation modeling.

Results showed that the hosts had higher perception than the guests in terms of the festival benefits, identity, and support. This study has two concept models: the guest model and the host model. In the host model, the local-development benefits have more positive relationships to affect the festival support and festival identity than the recreation-experience benefits.

On the other hand, the recreation-experience benefits could affect the festival support, but the festival identity could not in the guest model. The results of this study indicate that the festival organizers or the public sectors must be pay attention to the viewpoints of the guests and hosts in order to achieve the sustainable development objectives.

After 15 days of grafting, the seedlings were evaluated on the percentage of picks grafting. The treatment which used the tomato cultivar Cherry Red® as rootstock presented results of vegetative growth height and volume Cup higher than other treatments.

Research on waste prevention and management at green festivals is scarce. Waste characterization campaigns and a questionnaire survey were conducted during the festival. The results show that the largest amount of waste generated was residual waste, followed by food and kitchen waste and packaging waste.

The amount of waste generated per person per day at the festival was lower than that of other festivals for both the entire venue and the canteen. Concerning food and kitchen waste generated at the canteen, the amounts are in accordance with the findings of previous studies, but the amount of the edible fraction is comparatively low.

Source separation rates are high, in line with other festivals that engage in food-waste source separation. Factors affecting the participation of attendees in waste prevention measures at the festival are the type of participant, their region of origin, the frequency of visits, and whether they are attending as a family.

With the millennium crossing, scientists in New York agitated for a celebration of the City as a place for a thriving science culture. In they began World Science Festival. World Science Festival was founded by Dr. Brian Greene, Columbia University, and is operated through the World Science Foundation.

The Festival is "saturation science" all over Manhattan in a series of lectures, shows, exhibits, performances. It is staged in "science" venues like colleges and musea, but also in off-science spaces like theaters and galleries.

It is a blend from hard science, with lectures like those by us astronomers, to science-themed works of art, dance, music. Events are fitted for the public, either for free or a modest fee. While almost all events are on Manhattan, effort has been made to geographically disperse them, even to the outer boroughs.

The grand finale of World Science Festival is a street fair in Washington Square. Science centers in booths, tents, and pavilions highlight their work.

Full Text Available The purpose of this article is to examine the socio-demographic differences between entrepreneurs at National Arts festivals in South Africa. Language, and specifically Afrikaans, English and African languages, was used as the dependent variable.

The Klein Karoo National Arts Festival KKNK in Oudtshoorn and the Grahamstown National Arts Festival GNAF are the two largest arts festivals in South Africa. The data from KKNK and GNAF were combined and factor analyses were applied to determine the role and attributes of entrepreneurs.

Cross-tabulation analyses were used to illustrate the comparison of language with socio-demographical variables marital status, qualification, province, family business, personal attributes, business premises and resourcefulness and the role and attributes of entrepreneurs.

In addition, the association of language with independent variables was examined by means of one-way ANOVA for the three language groups.

Findings suggest that there are significant differences in festival entrepreneurs from different cultures languages, especially in terms of socio-demographic variables such as marital status, education, province, business and personal attributes resourcefulness.

The Arts Festivals were Innibos, Oppikoppi and Volksblad. Problem investigated: The literature review clearly shows that, in order for marketers of festivals to use scarce resources effectively and efficiently, it is paramount to do market segmentation.

The advantages of market segmentation lie in an increase in visitor numbers, better image, and by creating a competitive advantage to name but a few.

Method of research: The research was conducted by means of structured questionnaires at the three arts festivals. The data was used to compile a profile of each Festival.

The significance of the correlation between the three Festivals and their profiles were tested by using effect sizes and Chi-square. A sample size of questionnaires for Volksblad, questionnaires for Innibos and for Oppikoppi was used.

Findings: The results show that the visitor profile variables that are significant for market segmentation purposes include:language; the province in which Festival attendees reside; days spent at the Festival ; and the size of the travelling group. These results confirmed but also contradicted a number of similar studies conducted.

The results also clearly showed the different profiles of each of the three arts festivals. Igualmente intentamos refutar la tendencia que reconoce esta novela sólo por su novedad formal en el modo como aborda el género autobiográfico, y no estudia ni pondera su problematización del lenguaje literario, la fusión de medios expresivos y la confrontación de la heteronormatividad desde la instancia de su temática queer.

Palabras clave: Fun Home, literatura queer, literatura norteameri- cana. ABSTRACT Through the analysis of Fun Home by Alison Bechdel, we try to make evident the strength that the queer discourse has been acquiring within the contemporary white heterosexual dominant world.

Once this novel was acknowledged by the literary elite, it had to deal with the novel´s particularities and its questioning of the western canon. Likewise, we try to refute the tendency to examine this novel only in a formal or structural level putting aside its challenges to the literary language, its fusion of means of expression and its confrontation to hetero normativism due to its queer viewpoint.

Key words: Fun Home, queer literature, American literature. Esta resulta la más evidente de las alteraciones heterodoxas que cruzan esta obra de Alison Bechdel. Sin embargo, ella es solo uno de los múltiples accesos interpretativos y de significación que la obra ofre- ce.

Su temática coloca el punto focal en la relación compleja que a lo largo de su vida la protagonista narradora mantiene con su padre. Y tal complejidad se asienta mayormente en lo que todavía hoy resulta un misterio yuna dificultad en muchos ámbitos sociales: la cuestión lésbica yhomosexual.

Y muy a pesar de las clasifica- ciones a las que ha sido sometida, de los buenos juicios que se ha gran- jeado en la prensa norteamericana y europea, no puede ser asimilada al género autobiográfico sin mayor explicación. Ceder a este intento clasi- ficatorio es someterla a un lecho de Procusto.

No es una autobiografía más; no es una narración novedosa por su mero carácter gráfico. Su publicación implicó un acto de valentía y no de tremendismo y su asunción indiferenciada de las convenciones más apreciadas de la terminología y procedimientos literarios hacen que deba ser estimada, mejor, como una de las obras si no la primera, por el nivel de acepta- ción alcanzado más señeras de la voz queer.

Es la concretización a través del discurso artístico literario de lo queer como manera de ver el mundo yasumirlo. Fun Home es la puesta en obra no de un modelo o paradigma expresivo, sino del cambio de episteme al que alude, desde su misma existencia, lo queer. Y la extraordinaria acogida que ha recibido la obra de Bechdel entraña una oportunidad que se ofrece a la heteronormatividad no tanto para que ceda en su postura, sino, más bien, para que amplíe los límites de lo normal, y con ello, de la tolerancia.

El texto queer Tres son los ejemplos que Donald Hall ofrece como re- presentativos de la textualidad queer en literatura. Orlando de Virginia Woolf, The Color Purple de Alice Walker y, por último, Giovanni´s room de James Baldwin.

Su argumentación se basa en las diversas for- mas como esos textos enfrentan las nociones de sexualidad dominantes, desafían el pensamiento binario de la heteronormatividad y ofrecen una amplia perspectiva sobre lo inestable que resulta la definición en térmi- nos fijos y permanentes de lo que se considera la sexualidad normal.

Con esta intención, Hall registra las particularidades de las obras que presenta como emblemáticas de lo queer: las vías para demostrar el deseo p.

Para detallar aún más las particularidades de construcción de Fun Home, hemos adelantado que apelaremos a ciertas categorías textuales propuestas por Gerard Genette Puesto en claro el método, aclaramos algunos términos.

Es decir, todo aquello que pone a un texto en relación con otro u otros constituye la transtextualidad y ese es el objeto que persigue la poética p. Esta relación entre textos puede ser implícita o explícita y, aunque funcionen por oposición, son inseparables en tanto que constituyen las distintas partes de un todo.

Dentro de esta compleja relación del texto con sus pares de distintas épocas y géneros hay también la posibilidad de que el texto primario cite o refiera aquellos que, por expresa voluntad del au- tor, han de funcionar como su marco de referencia. A pesar de que este procedimiento es de vieja y extensa difusión en la literatura occidental El Quijote sería una expresión paradigmática de tal accionar , en el caso que nos ocupa alcanza niveles inusitados por la variedad de los materiales incorporados, por la manera cómo se pre- sentan y las relaciones que establecen con la trama de la narración.

Es por ello que Fun Home puede ser considerada la más elaborada y compleja manifestación de la literatura queer, no sólo por asumir las premisas de la literatura que resiste la dominación heterosexual y sus convencionalismos, sino también porque su estructura es un abierto de- safío a la crítica establecida.

Fun Home realiza buena parte de las categorías que Genette ex- pone como la concretización de la transtextualidad. La primera y más evidente es la combinación de la ilustración con la escritura. No es po- sible asegurar sin duda que este sea el primer texto que maniobra en ambos niveles de significación, pero, ciertamente, sí es la primera nove- la con tales características.

Esta conjunción de dos categorías discursivas se encuentra dentro de los límites de la paratextualidad. Dentro de ella se definen como «paratexto» al título, subtítulo, intertítulos, prefacios, epílogos, adver- tencias, prólogos, etc.

De hecho, si se asume que Fun Home es más un texto de índole narrativa que se apoya en el có- mic, éste resultará un paratexto de la narración en sí.

Ello constituye una de las muchas transgresiones no en sentido peyorativo que la novela presenta y que son la base de su queerness, pues, cuando se combinan texto y dibujo, prima éste sobre aquél. Mientras que Fun Home opera en sentido contrario Igualmente, una lista exhaustiva de los paratextos que hay a lo lar- go de la obra nos dejaría con un inventario extenso y múltiple.

Sin em- bargo, no es posible agotar las opciones de análisis de ellos en un traba- jo como éste. Sirvan, a manera de ejemplo, las referencias a obras lite- rarias, eventos sociales de época, fotografías, grafías correspondientes a otros textos, mapas, afiches, portadas de libros, los cuales configuran una amplísima red de sentidos y significaciones.

También es necesario referir que, para el caso de Fun Home, la ilustración no basta como para considerarla un cómic muy a pesar de que la prestigiosa revista Time la juzga como el mejor libro de ese géne- ro para el Basado en esto, podría suponerse erróneamente que la narración es completada en su significación por las ilustraciones que la acompañan.

Sin embargo, en no pocos casos, queda patentizado que es la escritura quien debe acudir en ayuda de la imagen a fin de confor- mar un sentido que no está presente. Así, en la página V. Imagen 1 , se muestra un recuadro que ilustra una escena de la ciudad de Nueva York, con lo que debería ser una muestra de lo abigarrado que resultan las grandes urbes.

En esta ocasión, Bechdel, usando la sutil estrategia de la referencia a los olores, 17 En este punto sostenemos una perspectiva distinta a la desarrollada por Agnes Muller , quien enfatiza que el dibujo en Fun Home es, en todos los casos, un complemento o ampliación de la significación del texto escrito, en tanto que permite ahorrarse largos excursos descriptivos por ejemplo.

Por nuestra parte, intentamos demostrar que, por el contrario, la perspectiva de la imagen como discurso autosuficiente es puesta en crisis en la novela, ya que en no pocos casos, es la escritura la que auxilia a la ilustración en la definición del sentido.

Ello constituye otro de los rasgos queer de este texto. Junto a cada punto de referencia ha colocado un cuadro de texto que indica, sin dudas para el lector y dirigiendo de este modo el proceso interpretativo, qué olor le corresponde.

No deja la posibilidad de que se establezca otro tipo de sentido a partir de una combinación distinta de los referen- tes dibujados.

Esta debilidad de la imagen ante la letra va a contravía de lo que, por lo general, se espera de los cómics. Varios ejemplos que van por el mismo derrotero pueden aludirse pp. Sin embargo, el que se puede hallar en la página V.

Imagen 2 , es muy relevante. Allí se expone la experiencia de la prota- gonista con respecto al crecimiento de su busto. No basta, en esta oca- sión, parailustrar el acontecimiento el perfil enjuto que caracteriza la figura femenina, por lo que se hace necesario complementar la significa- ción que implica un busto casi inexistente con otro recuadro en el que se adosa a los pechos expuestos un par de cuadros de texto que explican ciertas particularidades fisonómicas.

Aún más, este recuadro es una ventana hacia la intimidad física, la desnudez, del personaje. El círculo que muestra los pechos se incrusta en un marco donde está el cuerpo vestido. Y este recuadro a su vez se coloca en relación directa, por intermedio de una flecha que cruza parte de la página, con otro que lo precede en el que la protagonista se halla vestida y conversando con su padre.

Puede observarse aquí el modo en que, nuevamente, la autora in- terviene en el proceso de decodificación de su texto por parte del lector y guía a éste en la práctica interpretativa. Y, al mismo tiempo, se expresa una cuestión fundamental en los estudios queer: la asunción de una corporeidad que cuestiona las nociones dadas como inamovibles en cuanto al género.

De esta manera, la protagonista aparece a lo largo de toda la obra, y sin signo evidente de contrariedad, con un físico prácti- camente sin busto, en abierto desafío a la feminidad entronizada. Fun Home también es una excelente puesta en escena de la intertextualidad.

Ciertamente, considera Genette , la intertextualidad es la relación de copresencia entre dos o más textos: la presencia efectiva de un texto en otro. En resumen: un enunciado cuya plena comprensión supone la percepción de su relación con otro enunciado al que le remite necesariamente alguna de sus inflexiones, que no serían perceptibles de otro modo p.

Ello ocurre con claridad meridiana cuando en la novela se narra el momento justo en que la protagonista sale del clóset. Según el ritmo de la narración previa, el lector esperaría una declaración que fuera a tono con el dis- curso precedente. Sin embargo, la obra sigue un rumbo distinto: se cita, directamente, otro texto, el cual, según la protagonista-narradora fue el detonante para asumir sin tapujos su nueva realidad y, en consecuencia, su identidad.

Este trastocamiento de la tensión narrativa, que apela a lo externo para su realización es una evidencia más de la estructura queer de la novela. La hegemonía, en este sentido, se asume desde dos perspectivas o componentes complementarias, aunque no necesariamente coincidentes.

La global, representada por el centro imperio y la capacidad para imponer a la periferia otros países su proyecto de dominación económico, cultural, político e ideológico.

La otra se refiere a las condiciones nacionales, a las contradicciones de clases y a la legitimidad con la que se configura y reproduce el orden interno de dominación social. El artículo refuta el mito sobre la capacidad excepcional de generación de empleo del modelo estadunidense y muestra, al contrario, el incremento de la precarización del trabajo y la creciente desigualdad social y ampliación de la pobreza.

Al establecer los antecedentes del actual mundo unipolar, consideramos la gran crisis capitalista vivida entre y , así como el surgimiento y fortalecimiento del modelo keynesiano y del estado benefactor como paradigmas predominantes en el capitalismo del período de la guerra fría, entre y La valoración del mundo unipolar a partir de considera también las razones y consecuencias del derrumbe del bloque socialista soviético, así como los procesos que condujeron al fortalecimiento de la hegemonía estadounidense sobre el mundo globalizado a lo largo de la década de y comienzos del siglo XXI, así como el predominio del neoliberalismo como paradigma único impuesto por los centros económicos del poder mundial.

En una perspectiva actual, consideramos el desarrollo de la crisis económica que sacude al capitalismo mundial desde , las causas que la originan, sus consecuencias hasta ahora y el posible desarrollo futuro de la misma.
